Acherontia lachesis

Acherontia lachesis

Acherontia lachesis is popular as Death’s-head Hawkmoth. This moth was encountered around UNIPA at Manokwari, West Papua. The size was about 7 cm from anterior to posterior. If we look at the thorax, there is a human skull pattern. With a very strong and stout tongue, they suck the honey out. As nocturnal species, they may play a role as pollinator of plants whose flower emerge in the dark.
